Our History

Hamada Retreat was born from a deep love for the Sahara Desert and a vision to share its untouched beauty with the world. Our founders, having spent years exploring the vast expanses of the Moroccan desert, discovered a place where silence still exists and the night sky remains unpolluted by light.

All deserts are composed of two distinct parts: Hamada and Dunes. We chose to establish our camp in the Hamada—the rocky, flat desert terrain—to escape the growing overabundance of camps clustering around the famous dunes. In those areas, silence and darkness at night have become rare luxuries, replaced by noisy, brightly lit gatherings that obscure the magnificent starry sky.

The largest Hamada in the world is located in the Moroccan Sahara, comprising 70% of it. This is where we found our sanctuary—a place overlooking the highest dunes in the Sahara, yet removed enough to preserve the authentic desert experience.

Every element of Hamada Retreat has been thoughtfully designed to honor both the ancient Berber traditions and the expectations of modern travelers seeking genuine connection with nature. From our hand-crafted tents to our locally-sourced cuisine, we strive to create an experience that is both authentic and comfortable.
